Telangana-The Demands For Statehood

Stories & columns on Telangana have been on the front pages of Newspapers for about a week now & a lot has been written and said on the issue. The Question that is being asked is that is there a need to carve out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh? Probably there is no perfect answer.

Telangana literally means 'The land of The Telugu's' and it covers a large part of Andhra, including Hyderabad. In fact, it is itself larger then 17 other states & U.T.s. A hyped demand for statehood has triggered copycat demands from various other regions in the country.

Most people feel that small States would lead to better governance. But Gujrat, Punjab, Maharastra are big states and are fairing much better than Nagaland or Tripura. It is the leadership that determines the welfare of the people, and not the state's size.

I feel that we can't continue to carve out more linguistic states now. It's high time we learn to respect other communities & cultures & learn to live with differences of opinions. The politicians come up with such demands only to get the vote of the common man, we need to be causious. There are already a lot of problems (Both internal & external) that our country has to face & the last thing we would want is the political class fighting for separate states and power depriving us of much needed progress.
No united Andhra or Telangana, We want a UNITED INDIA!!!

BJP gives India reason for National Shame

For all of those who have no idea of what I am talking about - Yesterday(8th December, 2009) , the BJP MP'S created a nothing less than a ruckus at the lower house of the parliament, and did not let Honable Home Minister to talk about the Babri Masjid demolitions. The BJP have given us national shame as their way of protest was simply not bearable, I feel that the BJP MP's could have easily walked out in order to protest against the Liberhan Report, but what they did was actually very undesirable, throwing paper balls, shouting slogans, not letting the Home minister have his say. Even if you haven't seen this on TV, you can easily guess how rude the BJP MP's were. I think that even a school going kid is much well behaved than them. I have always been critical of this party ever since I've been active in the political structure of the country. And undoubtedly this is not the very first time that the BJP has made news for wrong reasons. This incident surely has a negative impact on the politics of India, how are people going to think about the politics of India, when the MP's can't respect their own country's Home Minister. I hope that the BJP will now atleast lessen their disrespect to the other MP's, after the high amount of critisizm which they have received from the media.
